Letter from Oxfordshire County Council
We are writing to inform you that Oxfordshire County Council’s made Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) that introduces a trial ‘Quiet Lane’ on Shepherd’s Pit Lane, in Stanton St John, went live on Monday 21 September and that works have been completed in anticipation of the statutory consultation which opened today (Monday 28 September) from 12 noon.
More information on this can be found on our Let’s Talk Oxfordshire page, including the survey that all respondents are encouraged to fill out with feedback about the trial following usage of it.
This follows the making and subsequent publishing of the ETRO from Thursday 10 September. The ETRO prohibits motor vehicles from entering Shepherd’s Pit Lane (except for access and designated exempted vehicles) from its junctions with Bayswater Road and Beckley Road/Wheatley Road (B4027), effectively covering its entire length.
Access will be maintained for those walking, wheeling, cycling or horse riding. Exemptions will apply to emergency service vehicles, public utility vehicles, highway maintenance vehicles, and for those vehicles requiring legitimate access to property or land adjacent to the closure (including for agricultural purposes).
The experiment will be closely monitored by officers, with findings to be reported to the Cabinet Member for Transport after at least 6 months. This monitoring will help ensure the right decision is made about whether to make the arrangements permanent.
Any person may object to the making of the order for the purposes of such indefinite continuation within a period of 6 months i.e. any objections or other representations should be submitted by Friday 26th March 2027.
Please reply to this email should you have any questions or queries or if you require any additional information and a member of the team will get back to you.
Kind regards,
Oxfordshire quiet lanes team
